Baking Soda in Toothpaste

posted in: Health & Beauty

Baking Soda in Toothpaste – Many toothpastes sold in Thailand contain Baking Soda Sodium Bicarbonate. Toothpastes with sodium bicarbonate can provide multiple benefits. These would include stain removal and whitening while carrying out the neutralising of mouth acids and plaque removal.

The result is a fresher breath and more deep teeth cleaning. Reduction in gum irritations and pain will occur. Some people like it because it is so mild in terms of its abrasiveness. For some individuals this means that they can avoid possible unwanted chemicals such as fluoride.

Stain Removal with Whitening

There has been studies that found that toothpaste containing sodium bicarbonate baking soda were better for both whitening teeth and removing plaque than toothpastes without baking soda content. Teeth whitening with Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda can happen in two ways. First as a gentle abrasive that will scrape away particles. These particles make teeth look yellowed or have stained the tooth enamel.

Secondly, when baking soda is dissolved in water, there is a release of free radicals. The sodium bicarbonate penetrates enamel and has a reaction on the molecules that make up the teeth and gum stains. They can break down stains to produce cleaner, whiter-looking teeth. This is likely because the baking soda has mild abrasive properties to break the bonds of the molecule particles that stain the teeth. It can help fight harmful bacteria because of its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Neutralising Acid

Baking soda can neutralize the bacteria in mouth acids. The bacteria comes from the sugars in food and those that are taken in tea and coffee. There will be decay and damage to teeth cavities and enamel if they are not neutralized. Baking soda rebalances the levels of acid and helps with the treatment and prevention of halitosis. Baking soda can prevent gum disease, sometimes called gingivitis. Characterised by swollen, sore, bleeding or infected gums, often accompanied by bad breath.

Removing Plaque

Sodium bicarbonate is mildly abrasive and can attack the sticky plaque bacteria that builds up on the teeth enamel. The sticky plaque has to be broken down by baking soda because this bacteria converts food sugars into corrosive acids. Therefore getting rid of them is essential to the prevention cavities and other decay.

Fresher Breath

Many Thai people believe that by using toothpaste with baking soda often they have fresher breath. And, they often find that they can use less other breath fresheners products such as mouthwash, mints or gum less frequently. Making them feel more confident and they don’t have to worry about bad mouth odor.

Deep Cleaning

Sodium bicarbonate crystal particles are very small. When scraping the teeth, baking soda is better at getting into cracks and crevices. Many other toothpastes contain hydrated silica which has much larger particles. They are not so good at getting into the areas that bacteria usually breeds and therefore will allow the conversion of more sugars into harmful acids.

Reduce Gum Irritation

Baking soda toothpaste can help with reducing inflammation and redness to the gums. It can keep bacteria and acids under control that both contribute to irritated gums. People find that with less pain they have an easier time eating and consuming certain foods.

Using Baking Soda Toothpaste regularly can help maintain good oral hygiene and prevent trips to the dentist. #
